Protesters Gather in Nashville

Wednesday, protesters gathered in Nashville to show they are against specific policies being considered by the general assembly.

The issues range from gun violence to discrimination, but a big focus of their message will be on school vouchers and arming teachers.

Sheriff Chad Partin

Demonstrators spoke on the impact of gun violence, which prompted lawmakers to consider arming teachers. Coffee County Sheriff Chad Partin has shown his support for arming teachers as long as they undergo proper training and classes.

Also, Governor Bill Lee’s school voucher plan would give thousands of dollars to every student to attend the school of their choice. Discussions have stalled on that proposal, however.

The school vouchers bill was not included in the senate’s budget that passed on Tuesday, and lawmakers appear to be prioritizing other issues.
