Former Mayor Who Resigned from Decherd Now Employed by the City

Michael Gillespie

According to Decherd Alderman Justin Stubblefield, former Decherd Mayor Michael Gillespie has been hired as a part-time Clerk for the City of Decherd and has been seen working in the office of former Decherd City Administrator Rex Clark.

In August of 2022, Gillespie resigned, and Vice Mayor Mary Nell Hess took over as Mayor.

At the time, board members accused Gillespie of misusing his authority, including authorizing $70,000 to purchase a city vehicle without board approval.

Alderman Stubblefield said that Gillespie told him he was hired as a part-time City Clerk by Mayor Hess.
