Major League baseball’s shortened 2020 season took flight yesterday with just a few games debuting in empty stadia and lots of kneeling during the National Anthem. The Yankees beat the reigning MLB champs Washington Nationals 4-1 in D.C. in a rain-shortened six-inning game, while out west the Giants bombed the Dodgers 8-1. Today, the Braves will face the Mets, the Blue Jays are at Tampa, the Tigers and Reds square off, and the Marlins are in Philadelphia among other games, 13 in all.
MLB and the Players Union have agreed on an expanded playoff schedule to involve more teams this year.
