TSSAA Delays vote on Fall Sports Options

The TSSAA Board of Control met Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. to vote on contingencies for conducting fall 2020 sports in light of a state of emergency in Tennessee brought about by the coronavirus pandemic, and imposed by Governor Bill Lee until August 29.  All BOC members were present.

Executive Director Bernard Childress asked the Board to delay the vote until the TSSAA Legal Team and Counsel for the Governor’s office come to a decision on conducting a full sports schedule if at all possible.

“Conversations with the Governor’s Legal Team and TSSAA Counsel are ongoing, and we are recommending a delay on the vote on contingency plans.”

There were no comments from the Board members on the recommendation and no objections to the request, so a vote on contingency plans was not taken.

Exec Dir Bernard Childress said, “If we have any chance on having fall sports, people need to help us out.  Social distancing, wearing masks, and washing hands  to get the virus count down in order to have fall sports.”
