The Coffee County Lady Raiders softball team is in Gulf Shores, AL, this week, competing in a tournament against some other very talented teams.
In game one of three on Monday, Coffee County took on Hewitt-Trussville. Al. It came down to a pitching duel. Hewitt-Trussville managed 3 hits in the time-limit game, and the Lady Raiders got a single from Channah Gannon.
The Lady Huskies got a run in the second and third innings to get past Coffee County 2-1. The Lady Raiders scored their only run when Paisley Campbell knocked in Chesnie Cox after Cox walked and stole a base.
Lily Norman suffered the loss in the circle despite only giving up three hits.
Next up, Coffee County took on Wicksburg from Newton, Al., and the Lady Raiders lost for an unusual fourth time in a row, 7-2.
Coffee County highlights at the plate came from Jalyn Moran and Riley Phillips, who both had a double each. Phillips and Campbell each had an RBI.
Yeidy Cruz saw action for the first time in the pitching circle and, unfortunately, suffered the loss.
In game three, the Lady Raiders returned to their winning ways, defeating University High School from Normal, Illinois, 5-1.
Lily Norman was the winning pitcher and had 3 hits against the Lady Pioneers. Maggie Montgomery had 2 hits, including a double, and scored twice. Haleigh Skipper and Madison had an RBI each in the win, which improved Coffee County’s overall record to 7-4.
On Tuesday, the Lady Raiders will take on Hackleburg, AL Lady Panthers at 4 PM.
