On a cold damp night in Rhea County the Red Raiders of Coffee County fought hard, but the Golden Eagles were able to pick up the non-district 42-21 win.
Rhea County jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the 1st quarter, but the Raiders did not quit as they battled back to tie the game on two Connor Shemwell to Travis Martin touchdown passes. The Eagles scored once more before halftime to make it 21-14 at the break.
Rhea County’s wing-t offense continued its good work in the 2nd half, especially Sophomore RB Ethan Davis who finished the game with 278 yards and 5 touchdowns.
After falling behind 42-14 Coffee County managed one more score as Shemwell and Martin connected The Raiders added a touchdown late when Shemwell connected with Martin for a third for a third TD pass.
Shemwell finished the night with 213 yards passing. Konor Heaton finished with a tough 68 yards rushing.
Martin was named the Sir Pizza Player of the Game as he caught 6 passes for 90 yards and the 3 scores.
Coffee County (5-5) travels Murfreesboro on Friday night to take on Riverdale (9-1) in the first-round of the TSSAA playoffs. Game time is 7 p.m. with the pre-game show starting at 6 p.m. on The Rooster 101.5 FM.
