A Shelbyville woman faces felony charges following a financial exploitation investigation by special agents assigned to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation’s Medicaid Fraud Control Division.
On March 20, 2023, after receiving information from the Tennessee Department of Human Services Adult Protective Services, TBI agents began investigating 81-year-old Mary Ann Pruitt. During the investigation, agents determined Pruitt was in possession of a debit card belonging to a former tenant of her residence, a TennCare recipient, and used the tenant’s debit card to make unauthorized personal purchases and cash withdrawals at businesses in several counties over an approximately two-year period.
On March 25, the Bedford County Grand Jury returned indictments, charging Pruitt with one count of Financial Exploitation of a Vulnerable Adult and one count of Theft. On Wednesday, authorities arrested Pruitt and booked her into the Bedford County Jail on $25,000 bond.
