A male athlete and member of the Shelbyville Central High School Eagles basketball team collapsed in the locker room during halftime of Tuesday night’s game against Lincoln County. On Target News has learned that the player is senior Kyler Trice. The game was being played in the Falcon’s gymnasium in Fayetteville.
The young man required life-saving measures and was transported to the Lincoln County Hospital and airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville, where he was reported to be in stable condition.
“We are so grateful to the folks at Lincoln County who assisted our athlete,” said Bedford County Schools (BCS) Superintendent Dr. Tammy Garrett. “Their director of schools informed me there were four nurse practitioners present at the game who helped our student and utilized an AED device that was readily available. We thank the team at Lincoln County for their quick action that no doubt helped save him.”
No diagnosis is available at this time from Bedford County Schools for what caused the medical emergency. Garrett reported that the game was suspended. At this time, the plan is for the game to be rescheduled for Thursday night, February 15, at 6:00 PM.
There will be a student-led prayer vigil in the parking lot of the gym at Lincoln County High School on Thursday at 5 PM. Any donations will go directly to the Trice family.
