Exciting Season Comes to an End for Red Raider Boys’ Basketball

Saturday night brought heartbreak to the Coffee County boys’ basketball season as they fell to the Franklin Admirals, 61-51.

The quarterfinal game in the Region 5 Class 4-A tournament saw the Red Raiders gain a 12-10 lead after the first quarter.

In the second, Franklin’s 6’8” Christian Brown began to control the inside game as the Admirals held a 28-25 advantage at the half. Brown had 15 points in the first half and finished the game with 24 with three strong slam-dunks.

The Raiders could not find their scoring touch in the third quarter as Franklin took an 11-point lead into the fourth, 43-32. The Admirals would hit big free throws down the stretch to pull out the win, ending the Coffee County boys’ season.

Senior Cooper Reed had a big night for the Red Raiders as he hit five 3-pointers on his way to a 21-point night. On his final shot as a Red Raider, Reed hit a 3-pointer with only seconds remaining to score his 1,000th point in his career. He was named the Dr Jay Trussler/Rooster 101.5 Player of the Game.

Another senior, Jackson Shemwell, finished his high school career with a 15-point night. Jayden Carter and Brady Wright had 6 points each, Cayden Trail had 2 points, and Courtland Farrar ended the night with one.

Remember, Monday night at 6, the Coffee County Lady Raiders will play in a region semifinal game against Shelbyville at Centennial High School in Franklin. Hear the game on the Rooster 101.5, www.rooster.1015.com, or the Rooster 101.5 app.
