Two bills in the Tennessee General Assembly seek to find out where Tennesseans stand on legalizing marijuana.
SB2726/HB2657 would include three questions on the November ballot to get official feedback on public sentiment. The first question proposed would ask, “Should the State of Tennessee legalize medical marijuana? YES or NO.” A second question addresses marijuana sales, asking, “Should the State of Tennessee legalize and regulate commercial sales of recreational use marijuana? YES or NO.”
The third question deals with decriminalizing small amounts of marijuana, asking, “Should the State of Tennessee decriminalize possession of less than one ounce (1 oz.) of marijuana? YES or NO.”
Tullahoma Republican Janice Bowling introduced the Senate bill.
If passed, the results of the voting will be shared with members of the General Assembly for consideration by lawmakers in future decisions or legislation surrounding the issue.
